House design essentials: insulations part two

Keeping with our promise for doing a second post on  low cost insulation hacks here are our the hacks which have been carefully chosen by us @ housedesignnewzealand :

Fill any floor gaps. Most homes I have been to have gaps between the floor boards and the floor, and if you are using floorboards there's every chance of a few gaps between them too. A silicon sealer would do the job here. However, If you have wooden flooring and want to insulate it thoroughly, you could get the experts in to fit floor insulation beneath the boards. Putting a rug down isn't a bad idea either.

Insulate the loft or attic. Insulating the loft or the attic can really help a lot ,approximately a ton of carbon dioxide .Additionally, it is so simple and cheap, any person with no experience can do this. Just get some fiberglass wool and cover all places under your ruff you can reach. Recyclable glass wool is quite cheap and can be easily bought ,but make sure it is around 6 inches thick.

Build drywall over "cold wall". A cold wall is usually a concrete wall with no or very bad insulation .you can build 10–15 centimeter (3.9–5.9 in) thick dry plasterboard wall to it. The fire proof  plasterboard wall is very simple to build and you can add very good ,cheap Glass wool into it, which is an excellent insulator and is soundproof.

Wrap your hot water tank in a jacket. This will significantly cut heat loss, and you'll recoup the cost of it in less than 6 months. The ideal size being 80 mm.
